Ambient Sound Mixer

Mix rain, wind & noise

Blend rain, wind, a campfire and noise to taste for focus and relaxation.

Use the toolHow it works

Sounds are synthesized in your browser with no server or audio files. They will not sound exactly like real recordings.

How to use the Ambient Sound Mixer

  1. Press Play to start. By default only rain plays at a medium level.
  2. Use each slider to build the atmosphere you like. There are also presets such as Rainy night and Focus.
  3. Set Auto stop from 15 to 60 minutes and the sound stops by itself when time is up.

How it works — Ambient Sound Mixer

The sounds in this mixer are not audio files; they are generated in your browser with the Web Audio API. White noise mixes all frequencies evenly, pink noise emphasizes lower tones a little and sounds more natural, and brown noise is much heavier in the low end like distant thunder or a waterfall. Rain is pink noise with the lowest and highest tones filtered out. Wind is brown noise whose filter is slowly swept so it rises and falls like a breeze. The campfire is a low rumble with random short crackles added, and the fan keeps only the low band.

When it helps

Use it to mask background noise while you concentrate, to study or read, to work from home when sounds distract you, or to settle down before sleep with a steady sound. Mix several sounds to find your own combination. If a constant sound bothers you, blend wind with rain to add variety.

Tips

  • Start with the volume low and raise it only to a comfortable level.
  • For sleeping, try brown noise with light rain and set Auto stop.
  • Keep the volume especially low with earphones to protect your hearing.
  • Sound keeps playing in other tabs, but a phone may stop it when the screen turns off.

Notes & limitations

These are synthesized sounds and differ from real recordings. Listening loudly for long periods strains your ears, so keep the level moderate. Effects on sleep or focus vary by person and are not a medical treatment.

FAQ

Why do I have to press Play?

Browsers block audio from starting without a user action, so playback begins only after you press Play.

Is there a café sound?

No. Café noise contains human voices, which are hard to synthesize convincingly, so it is left out.

The sound cuts out or seems odd.

Other apps or browser power saving may interfere. Stop and press Play again.
