How to use the barcode generator

  2. If the value does not fit the format, a message appears.
  3. Adjust width, height and color, then save as SVG or PNG.

How the barcode generator works

A barcode expresses numbers or characters as a pattern of bars with different widths. CODE128 can hold both letters and numbers, making it the most versatile, while EAN-13, EAN-8 and UPC are numeric-only formats used on retail products. For EAN-13, entering 12 digits automatically calculates the final check digit to make 13. CODE39 is an older format using capital letters, digits and a few symbols, used in logistics and inventory. This tool draws the barcode inside your browser and never sends the value to a server.

Tips

  • For internal inventory or asset tracking, CODE128 is the most practical choice.
  • When printing, use SVG or a large PNG so the bars do not blur.
  • Before saving, check that a scanner or app can read it.
  • Dark bars on a white background read best.

Formats at a glance

CODE128 has almost no length limit and supports both letters and numbers, so it is often used for internal management. CODE39 is simple, based on capital letters and digits, but produces a longer barcode for the same content. EAN and UPC have fixed lengths and a final check digit, so a wrong entry cannot be read by a scanner. The most important thing is to choose the format that fits your purpose, and codes used on products for sale must be issued through the official process.

Notes & limitations

EAN and UPC codes you make up can collide with real product codes, so do not use them as-is on products for sale. For retail, use product codes issued through the official procedure.
