How it works — Wage & Holiday Pay (Korea)
In Korea, an employee who works a full week and at least 15 hours receives a paid day off called weekly holiday pay. For a 40-hour week the paid holiday is 8 hours; for shorter weeks it is scaled as hours divided by 40 times 8. To get a monthly figure the weekly hours are multiplied by 4.345, which is 365 days divided by 7 days and 12 months. A 40-hour worker therefore has (40 + 8) × 4.345, or about 209 paid hours a month. At the 2026 minimum wage of ₩10,320 that is ₩2,156,880 a month, matching the official monthly equivalent. The 2027 minimum wage is confirmed at ₩10,700, or ₩2,236,300 a month.
How deductions are estimated
For 2026 the employee share of social insurance is 4.75% for the national pension, 3.595% for health insurance, 13.14% of the health premium for long-term care, and 0.9% for employment insurance, all applied to gross monthly pay. Income tax and local income tax are not included because they depend on the withholding table and the number of dependents. For part-timers and freelancers taxed at 3.3% as business income there is a separate option.
Tips
- Minimum wage compliance is judged on the monthly equivalent that includes holiday pay, so use this tool to check a monthly salary contract too.
- If the result falls below the minimum wage, recheck using base pay without overtime or night premiums.
- Very short-hour workers under 15 hours a week are not entitled to holiday pay, so clear that box.
- When you change the year, the wage field switches to the new minimum wage automatically.
