Parcel Box Packing Guide

Find the right Korea Post box (No. 1 to 5) and packing tips

Enter the item size and find the right box.

Use the toolHow it works

Box sizes (outer) can differ by about 1 cm between sources. Check the actual size at your post office before choosing. Prices vary by time and branch, so they are not shown.

How to use the parcel box packing guide

  1. Enter the length, width and height of the item in cm. If you have several, enter the quantity too.
  2. Set how much cushioning you want and optionally the weight, and the smallest Korea Post box No. 1 to 5 that fits is recommended.
  3. Choose the item type to see packing tips for it below.

How to choose a box

A box should leave a little room for cushioning rather than being a tight fit. If it is too big the item shifts and breaks more easily and the box price and fee go up. If it is too small, corners get crushed or the box bulges and may be refused. This tool takes the outer size, subtracts the wall thickness and cushioning to get the inside size, and checks whether the item fits.

The item can be placed in any of six orientations, and with several items every arrangement along length, width and height is tried. It recommends the smallest box that works and shows the ratio of item volume to box volume. If the ratio is very low, look for a smaller box or fill the empty space.

Korea Post box types and acceptance limits

Korea Post boxes run from No. 1 to No. 5, and there is also a flat No. 2-1. The larger the number, the larger the outer size and the sum of the sides. Nos. 4 and 5 have handle holes that make heavy items easier to carry. The sizes used here are the widely published outer dimensions and can differ by about 1 cm between sources.

For ordinary parcels, if the weight or the sum of the three sides is over the limit it may be refused or charged extra. Limits and fees depend on the service and the time, so check Korea Post guidance before sending. At first, focus on choosing a suitable box, and give the box a light shake before sending to make sure nothing rattles.

Checks before packing

  • Measure the item exactly with a ruler before entering it.
  • Leave at least 3 cm of cushioning around fragile items.
  • Reinforce the bottom and top with an H pattern of tape.
  • Write the sender and recipient details inside the box too, in case the outer label comes off.
  • Weigh the parcel before sending to confirm it is within the limit.

FAQ

How do I measure a parcel box?

Length, width and height are measured on the outside. The sum of the three sides is often the basis for the shipping fee and whether it is accepted. When packing, the inside must be clearly larger than the item, allowing for cushioning and the thickness of the box wall.

What are the limits for Korea Post parcels?

The general acceptance limits are given as 30 kg or less, three sides adding up to 160 cm or less, and the longest side 100 cm or less. There are also minimum sizes, so very small items may have to be sent with other packaging. Limits for services such as same-day express can differ, so check before sending.

How do I pack several items in one box?

Enter the quantity and this tool tries several ways of stacking along length, width and height to find the smallest box that fits. In reality it depends on cushioning and item shape, so use the result as a reference and try it by hand.
